Gangland vs.Treeland
A remote sensing study
conducted by Sean Faley, an undergraduate student at UCLA, visually
depicts the inverse correlation between tree cover and ganglands in
Los Angeles.
Unsurprisingly, the study finds that gangland areas have less tree
cover overall than the entire city of Los Angeles as a whole.
This could be for multiple reasons:
- One reason may be
that ganglands generally appear in more urbanized areas, with a
higher number of individual living in closer proximity to one
another.
- The more urbanized an
area, and the more people that inhabit a region, the more
buildings, both commercial and residential present in an area.
- Parks in these areas
appear to be very small and green cover much more sparse.

study click
