Program Highlights:
Introductions:
On May 19 - 21, all those interested in utilizing downed urban trees to make urban wood products will assemble for the first time in San Francisco's Presidio Park. This is a very important gathering for the emerging California Urban Forest Products Industry whose slow but steady formation has been underway for the past two decades. This is the critical year, the year to begin work on forming the Urban Forest Products Association of California that can link to the nationwide Urban Forest Products Alliance. This is the year for urban forest product business owners, urban foresters, arborists, educators, urban forest researchers, and advocates to meet for the first time and to begin setting the agenda for the further growth and development of the industry. Speakers from within the State and from other states will be present to discuss the industry's most critical issues including new business formation, certification of urban forest products, measuring the urban forest resource base, and how community and governmental organizations can support the further development of the industry throughout the State. If you have any interest in California's urban forests and how trees from those forests are used once they come down then this conference is a must-attend event.
Meetings and discussions will be held on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, at the Presidio Parade Ground, an all-day event open to the public will be held to showcase urban forest products and how urban trees are processed into lumber. This is a unique opportunity to see what others are doing, educate the public, and to sell urban forest products.

We have put together a fantastic collection of speakers from across the nation who represents some of the top leaders in urban wood utilization. Learn from their extensive experience some lessens to bring about the change you would like your community to make.
A special thank you to Cal Fire for their financial support as they have known for years the importance of this industry becoming successful to both divert green waste and to produce amazing wood products to educate our cities of the extreme value of our trees beyond the production of bio-fuels and mulch. Since much of the talk is to carbon sequestration in urban forestry these days, I can think of no better way to store carbon than a beautiful finished slab conference table!
And another thanks to our local and, not so local, artisans who have transported their incredible urban wood products to share with us. These incredible pieces represent examples of end uses that we all want to see more of in the coming years.
