Presented by Dave Shaw UCCE Farm Advisor to San Diego County
David A. Shaw is a U.C. Cooperative Extension Farm Advisor in San Diego County. Dave has a Master’s Degree in Water Science and a B.S. Degree in Plant Science, both from U.C. Davis. Dave provides educational and research programs focusing on commercial clientele in the turfgrass and landscape industries. Educational programs focus on soil and water management, pest management, cultural practices, toxicology and environmental safety, and economics to promote healthy plant materials and commodities. Current research projects encompass recycled water use, irrigation needs of ornamental plants, integrated pest management, and weed control. Programs are delivered through publications, meetings, short courses, field tours, mass media, and field and office consultations with clientele. Public policy education includes working with the County Administrative Officer and Department of Planning and Land Use, State Department of Water Resources, and various coalitions and councils related to the industry. These programs provide a critical link between U.C. campus-based researchers and the horticulture industry in San Diego County.

Carlsbad Arbor Day - April 28th 2012
SDRUFC partners Cal-Fire, Davey Resource Group, San Diego Gas and Electric, and West Coast Arborists supported the City of Carlsbad at their Arbor Day event at Stagecoach Park. SDG&E donated 12 trees to be planted at the park which will help provide a diverse canopy structure and shade for patrons for years to come.
We are always very well represented at several Arbor Day Events each year in our region. If you have photos and information from a past SDRUFC event you would like on this page please let us know!
Barefoot Eco Runner - August 18th 2011
SDRUFC members were on site when Henry Sanchez, the Barefoot Eco Runner from Colombia, South America crossed the boarder into San Diego. Sanchez is running barefoot from Argentina to Alaska raising awareness and helping plant as many trees as he can. To date he has been involved in the planting of more than 6 million trees in 14 countries! For more information on Sanchez's quest, follow him here.
SanTree Festival - March 14th, 2009
This year's SanTree Festival was held on March 14th at Mast Park along side the San Diego River in Santee. Numerous native species such as oak and sycamore were planted at this event along with litter cleanups and weed abatement. Congratulations to the City of Santee and SDRUFC council member Annette Saul on being awarded their Tree City USA designation for 2008 and on a highly successful community event.
